How to use active ingredients if you suffer from Rosacea?

Rosacea is a type of skin problem that causes small, red and pus-filled bumps on the surface of your skin. This can be treated with certain active ingredients as well. So, if you suffering from this skin issue, then follow the tips shared by Dr Niketa Sonavane, Celebrity Dermatologist and founder of Ambrosia Aesthetics, Mumbai.

How to use active ingredients if you suffer from Rosacea?

A simple and minimal skincare routine is best suited for rosacea-prone skin. But that does not mean you should neglect your open pores, fine lines and pigmentation. If you suffer from rosacea or sensitive skin, here are some simple tips shared by Dr Niketa Sonavane, Celebrity Dermatologist and founder of Ambrosia Aesthetics, Mumbai, on how to make active ingredients a part of your skincare routine.

Skin barrier repair comes first

The problem with rosacea skin is that the protective skin barrier is weak or compromised. This allows too much of the active ingredient to penetrate deeply into already sensitive skin.

Apply a barrier repairing moisturizer containing ceramides and hyaluronic acid before you apply your active skincare. This will prevent moisture loss, calm down the redness and allow the right amount of active ingredient to be absorbed into your skin.

Map your skin to use active ingredients

Even if the centre of your face appears red most of the time, it is likely that there are other parts of your face that are less sensitive. Focus on using skin calming ingredients such as peptides and ceramides on the red areas. And use active ingredients on those areas of your face which are less prone to redness.

Active ingredients that you apply on your skin can get absorbed in the blood circulation of your face. Though you are not applying the active ingredients directly to certain areas, it will still be beneficial.

Pick milder actives and go slow

If you have mild rosacea, your skin will love niacinamide and azelaic acid. Both these ingredients have multiple skin benefits and also calm down inflammation.

Another ingredient for mature rosacea-prone skin is nano-encapsulated retinol. This technology releases retinol into the skin slowly over time to prevent irritation.

For exfoliation polyhydroxy acids (PHAs) are best. PHAs exfoliate your skin gently and hydrate your skin at the same time. They work well with sensitive skin type and redness-prone skin.

Apart from this, the general thumb rule is using the active ingredients on alternate days or twice a week only. Also, start with the lowest available strength of active ingredients, especially retinol. And always patch test below your ear.

Double your skin protectionimage

Skin that is prone to redness or rosacea is more vulnerable to environmental damage. More so when you are using active ingredients for skin repair. Make sure you use a physical sunscreen containing zinc oxide every day and re-apply every 3 hours.

Also, you can ask your dermatologist about sunscreen tablets and start ceramide supplements for the added protection.

MET Gala 2021: Fashion’s BIGGEST event to return with 2 part fiesta after cancelling 2020 affair due to COVID

One of the biggest fashion events of all time, the MET Gala, along with many other events were cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown. This year, the Costume Institute’s two-part MET Gala is all set to commence on September 18 which will also close Fashion Week.

This year’s event is titled, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which will also celebrate the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary, announced the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday.
The second exhibit will commence on May 5, 2022, and is titled, In America: An Anthology of Fashion.
The theme has been set to celebrate American designers and to honour and celebrate the social, cultural and political events that took place last year.
The event was cancelled last year due to the lockdown. This time around, due to the concerning state of the pandemic, the event will have a smaller red carpet event this year with a limited number of stars, making for a more ‘intimate’ affair.
The second event in May 2022 on the other hand, could see a return to more over-the-top looks.

The last Met Gala held back in 2019, was Camp: Notes on Fashion. This year around, the idea is to emphasise the conscious creativity that was “Consolidated during the pandemic and the social justice movements,” said Andrew Bolton who curator-in-charge, Wendy Yu, at the Costume Institute, to Vogue. Bolton is set to transform the Costume Centre into an imaginary house. The curator seeks inspiration from Canadian writer Witold Rybczynski’s essay, Home: A Short History of an Idea which looks at how domestic living, comfort and culture evolved.

Who are you most excited to see back on the red carpet?

KDramas that portray mental health sensitively, Ft It’s Okay To Not Be Okay & Sky Castle

We recommend 5 K-dramas that portray a difficult genre like mental health with great sensitivity. Read on to find out.

KDramas that portray mental health sensitively, Ft It’s Okay To Not Be Okay & Sky Castle

It is the year 2021 and mental health is still a taboo topic in our society. Like a sin, people try to mask it, hide it and cover it up. Largely the society is still caught up with regressive thoughts about mental health and associates it with ‘illness or madness’. Well, mental health is the well being of your mind, body and soul. If your mental health is good, your overall health is good.

It is high time writers and directors across the world learn to portray ‘mental health’ sensitively in their work and through their work, educate their audiences as well. It is time we understand that mental health is as crucial to your well-being and is as real as a cough or cold! We recommend 5 K-dramas that have portrayed characters suffering from poor mental health in a very sensitive and human way. Read on to find out.

1. It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

Set against the magical backdrop of fairy tales and childhood memories, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay uses our favourite childhood elements like books and toys to heal their three protagonists – Ko Moon Young played by Seo Yea Ji, Moon Gang Tae played by Kim Soo Hyun and Moon Sang Tae played by Oh Jung Se and also the audiences. A beautiful must-watch drama.

2. It’s Okay, That’s Love

Another show that has a similar premise like It’s Okay To Not Be Okay is It’s Okay, That’s Love. Ji Hae Soo, played by Gong Hyo Jin provides comfort and healing to mega-writer Jang Jae Yeol, who actually suffers from schizophrenia. Viewers will find themselves relating to the characters and the ordeal they go through and also finding comfort in the fact that there is light at the end of this dark tunnel.

3. Sky Castle

Now, Sky Castle is a thriller in the guise of a brilliant takedown of Korea’s brutal education system, but it also depicts mental health and trauma beautifully. It is a handbook of everything you should not do. Everyone suffers, parents have their own insecurities and children suffer in the hands of parents’ onslaught. There is a scene where a father tells his son that as a kid he once pooped in their rice bowl, however, they still relished it because no parent will find their child’s poop disgusting. That scene alone will have you bawling your eyes out.

4. Chocolate

Starring Yoon Kye Sang as Lee Kang and Ha Ji Won as Moon Cha Young, Chocolate deals with the idea of healing childhood trauma. One important aspect of mental health is healing and growing out of it to embrace a new you, Chocolate does just that.

5. Be Melodramatic

Women being each other’s strength and support is my favourite concept. Jeon Yeo Bin plays Lee Eun Jung, a documentary film-maker who suffers from PTSD after her boyfriend passed away and often imagines and talks with him. Chun Woo Hee plays Lim Jin Joo who is dealing with a difficult breakup and Han Ji Eun as Hwang Han Joo, a single mother. Together they navigate through the difficulties of life. A must watch.

Rihanna, Dakota Johnson to Jennifer Lopez: How to style your summer bob like an ICONIC Hollywood diva

Last year this time, every actress was cutting off her long locks at home which inspired us to do the same. This time around while we’re still stuck in the same spot, the urge to chop off our locks is real. With the temperatures only going higher and the crazy heat, short hair sounds like a dream to most women right now. Plus, it will be all grown out by the time we need to step out again!
Need a push to take the plunge? Here are some of the sleekest ways to style your bob according to the hottest Hollywood divas.

Rihanna
Setting the bar real high, RiRi’s hair is perfect for those ladies who have wavy or curly hair and don’t think the bob is for them. We love her centre-parted wet hairdo with defined curls that accentuated her features.

Dakota Johnson
We can’t imagine Dakota without her iconic bangs. The actor also went short a few years ago but kept her bangs intact. For a fresh look, she styled her hair in a half-up manner for a red carpet and showed us how it’s done!

Jennifer Lopez
The queen of bold looks, JLo also took the short hair route. Always known for keeping things sleek and simple, Lopez styled her hair into poker-straight layers that further accentuated her sharp jawline.

Anne Hathaway
Putting forth one of the most Parisian chic looks, Anne styled her cropped hairdo into barrel waves with lots of gloss. A side-swept hairdo covered her face and this style is perfect for those with a large forehead!

Taylor Swift
Giving us one of the chicest looks yet, Taylor Swift left the world stunned when she cut her hair short. Her cropped hairdo won hearts when she straightened them giving us one of the slickest looks so far. Her perfectly styled bangs only added to this glamorous avatar.

Bella Hadid
For a more retro ’90s look, take inspiration from Bella Hadid’s simple U-cut hairdo with no additional layers and hair styled inwards.

Hailey Bieber
If you’re bored of the look Bella sported, upgrade it by taking inspiration from Hailey. Rather than styling your hair inwards, brush it outwards. For an additional glam look, add some gel to master the wet hairdo.

Reese Witherspoon
Furthermore, if you want to opt for an old Hollywood diva-esque retro look, Reese Witherspoon’s hair is just perfect. Her side-swept blunt bob was styled with elegant waves at the bottom while the roots were kept straight and simple.

A brilliant carry-forward from his previous album Paranoia. Antidote combines alternative R&B and rock elements and emphasizes on Kang Daniel’s sharp, yet stunning vocals.
